Hemet Concert Association

Tina Batchelder-Schwab, Artistic Director

The Fiato Quartet delivered a masterfully executed performance for the Hemet Concert Association, challenging the audience with the sophisticated and powerful works of African-American composers Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson and George Walker. Beyond the stage, the ensemble showed generosity during their educational outreach, providing students with valuable professional guidance and a genuine spirit of mentorship. They even managed to win instant "cool points" with the students by sharing what it’s like to perform for 20,000 people alongside Christina Aguilera. It was a brilliant demonstration of how world-class artistry can be both deeply intellectual and remarkably relatable.

“Had so so much fun watching the Fiato Quartet perform at Los Angeles Harbor College tonight—the last concert of the season, presented by the South Bay Chamber Music Society. It’s been forever since I listened to really GOOD chamber music, and these guys didn’t disappoint! Huge kudos to Sarah for the invite and for bringing her daughter Rebecca who’s a super bright ray of sunshine. Have an awesome weekend everybody! :) #beethoven #webern #mendelssohn #southbaychambermusicsociety #thefiatoquartet” [external link]

"String quartets have personalities. And that of the Fiato String Quartet, who played the latest Music Guild concert the other night at Daniel Recital Hall, is big, bold, and in your face. It took me a while to calm down after this one. An energetic, passionate display of virtuoso musicianship, and a highlight of the season."

"The whole movement perfectly adumbrates Shostakovich’s remarkable ability to nail his listeners’ attention with Ancient Mariner-like focus while veiling any specific meaning or resolution, but to achieve the full effect requires absolute commitment, precision, and unanimity from the players. This he got in full measure from the Fiato Quartet, who I had not encountered before but would very much like to hear again."

“…the performances by Micah Yui and the Fiato were marvelous. There were gentle, lyrical, lilting moments among the grandeur, and these were skillfully handled. But in places like the wild finale to the Brahms, the group really cut loose, controlled but with a delicious sense of abandon.”
